Senior INF Jason Shenkel recently committed to continue his academic and baseball career at Lakeland Community College. Jason enters his Senior Season as a Two-Year Letterman and was recently named the 2020 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Players to to Watch in Ohio List.
As a Freshman he made two appearances on the Varsity and recorded an RBI and a Walk in his two plate appearances. On the Junior Varsity he helped lead team to a 13-9 record and hit .277 and led the team in Runs (26) and Walks (18) while also recording 2 Saves on the mound.
Sophomore Year he earned his First Varsity Letter and was named the Team’s Rookie of the Year Award as he hit .343 AVG, .507 SLG, 13 R, 16 RBI, 3 Doubles, 6 Stolen Bases and led the team with 4 Triples. He was instrumental part of the 2018 team that won its first Sectional Championship in 10 Years (2008) and advanced to the District Championship Game for just the fourth time in school history and first appearance since 1995.
As a Junior he helped lead Crestwood to second straight Sectional Championship and would go on to be named 2nd Team All-Portage Trail Conference and was named the Team’s Mr. Baseball Award while hitting .315 and leading the team in doubles (7), Triples (3), Slugging % (.534) and tying for the team lead in Home Runs (1) and RBI (24).
Jason join a handful of other Crestwood alumni who have gone on to play at Lakeland Community College including Brian Craft (2001), Zack Sefcik (2016) and Brenden Hershberger (2018).
